Paarshooting Berlin // Ilo & Toby

Every photographer who is able to have this couple in front of his lens should be happy. In our case luck played a very big role, because Ilo & Tobi are the winners of our NEW YEAR SPECIAL PHOTO SESSION LOTTERY. It was so much fun to get to know them and to capture their easy-going and loving way of interacting in front of our cameras. This photo-shoot completely fitted our idea of what a couple photo-shoot should be like.

Today styled photo-shoots of couples dressed as characters of fairy tales or couples sitting on beaches next to pianos are kind of popular. But we have the feeling that this is not for us. Our approach to photography is different.

It’s just our personal opinion that you shouldn’t worry about styles and trends so much. We don’t like the artificial feeling of the whole styled photo-shoot thing.  Assuming that the couple isn’t into fairy tale role playing. So we were looking for a more personal way of photographing a couple-, after wedding- or engagement session. We came to the simple conclusion that we just have to ask the couple what kind of activities or places have a special meaning to them. We asked Ilo & Tobi and they didn’t have to think twice: Playing music together, they answered. Both of them play the piano since they were children. Tobi also plays guitar and has a great voice. Their music is part of the church service in their community since they were 14 years old.

Ilo & Tobi don’t live in Berlin so we were looking for a place where they could do what they love. We didn’t have to look very far. We found the nicest piano workshop right next door. After showing Ilo & Tobi in our neighbourhood at Wasserturm Prenzlauer Berg we went to visit this hidden place.
